how do you connect a home theater system to a tv without having to connect it to the crappy dvd player it came with? I want to connect it directly to my tv so i can have surround sound for my ps3
ive read the instructions and they dont tell me how to directly connect to the tv

I received a Philips DVD Home Theater System (model #: HTS3372D/F7), I have a Sharp Television (model #: 27A-S120), a PS3 and a Nintendo Wii, I also have a cable box provided to me by my cable company it is made by Motorola. To connect all the devices I purchased a 4-way component video distribution amplifier from RadioShack.

When I connect all the devices the only thing that plays from the surround sound speakers is the television, the DVD player on the surround sound system will not play the video, when I turn on one of the game systems and leave the speakers on you can hear the sound from the TV.

How do I connect all four devices and have the sound from each device play like it should be properly?

Another Update/Demo on My Home Theater System Pretty much just going over what's changed and what is still the same & doing a demo right after. Song is Rihanna: Rude Boy Chrispy Dubstep Remix Again have any questions or comments feel free to let me know! Thanks For Watching!

Anyone help me i've tried just about everything and still nothings working i think i might just go back to the xbox360 slim "i think that ps3 is awesome " free online play and all the games you want for 9.99 but the xbox360 has less compatibility issues. Can anyone please give me some info on hooking the surround sound up before i trade my system in?

Here's the issue: I have a 6 year-old "home theater in-a-box". There is a receiver that is also a dvd changer. In the back is a "digital coax in". So I went out and bought the following in order to connect my PS 3 to this receiver/dvd player:

1) an optical cable
2) a digital coaxial audio cable
3) an optical/coaxial converter

Here's what I did: I hooked up the optical cable to the PS3 "optical out". Then the other end of this cable went into the "optical in" on the converter box. I hooked up the digital coaxial cable to the "coaxial in" on the converter box. I hooked up the other end of this cable to the "coaxial in" on my receiver/dvd player.
My Playstation 3 is hooked up to my tv with an HDMI cable.
Once all this was done, I went into the PS3 menu and adjusted my audio settings to "optical cable".
Now, when I try to play a game there is no audio, only video. What could I POSSIBLY be doing wrong???????????? I knew this wasn't going to go smoothly, and I was right.
If I could get this hooked up the right way I would (esentially) have a Blu Ray surround sound system, and that would be SWEET. Can anyone help? What am I doing wrong??????????????

I want a new home theater system for my HDTV, but I have no experience with a speaker system and need some help.

What I want to do is have a speaker system hooked up to my HDTV somehow, so that I can use the entire surround sound system with WHATEVER is playing on my TV. For example, I have a PS3, Xbox360, PS2, etc. all hooked up to the HDTV. No matter what I'm playing or watching on the TV, I want to be able to use the speaker system. Even if Surround sound isn't available for the source (like a ps2) then I at least want to be able use the speakers in mono or front stereo so I have the bass quality. The reason I say all of that is because I have heard on some DVD Home Theater Systems you can only use the speakers when watching that DVD player that came with the system.

This is the system I am looking at:

On my HDTV, I have a digital optical audio out port, a regular audio port, and an HDMI port free to use for the speaker system. Here is a picture of my ports on my TV model:

Is it possible to achieve what I want with this system? If so, how would I do it and what would I need?

i connected the hdmi cable from the ps3 to tv then the red, white and yellow cable from the ps3 to the receiver/amp but still no sound how do i fix this??
