I had a coupon and gift cards for Best Buy and ended up with the LG LHT874 boxed home theater system. Big mistake on my end. The DVD player crapped out and the unit is not working the best. Any recommendations on a new unit? Here are my guidelines:
- 0 max with shipping
- Keeping same speakers and small sub, appeared to work fine. Unit pushed out 1000W.
- As 'low profile' as possible, as the wife doesn't want a big bulky thing
- The TV I have is an older 46" Samsung LCD, full 1080p
- Comcast HD box and upconverting DVD player will be hooked to it. (Bluray someday..)

Thanks!

Thanks for your thoughts. What I am trying to do is 'get out' of the all in one situation. I need to find a good receiver that can do what my all in one did. I am not just going to go to the store if there are less expensive and better units on amazon, etc.

I have a philips 42pfl5603d tv hooked up to my comcast HD receiver using HDMI as a connection. THAT'S DONE. next I have my Blu ray dvd hooked up to my rca rt2390 audio inputs via rca cables and composite cables going directly to the tv. THAT'S DONE. The problem is I want to play sound from the tv (when I'm watching cable tv) into the home theater system when i press the tv button on the home theater receiver....I have a digital audio cable coming from the tv directly to the receivers digital audio input, but I get no sound at all. My tv is new (still trying to get familiar with it) and I need to know if anybody can give me a hand. Thanks a bunch.

Watch in High Quality! My home theatre set up which takes up almost half the basement. Its really not THAT special. Lots of people have home theatres. I plan on upgrading the speakers, even though they are already pretty good. Sub woofer is a beast. HDMI on the PS3 works great, Blu-ray is amazing to watch, even planet earth. The screen is 106 inches, you measure 'theatre' screens diagonally. Note: I dont always play on this, I do have a regular sized tv which I often play on. I had to throw in the poker table, slots and booze :) Enjoy, Rate, Comment. Please Subscribe for more!

I'm in the market for an home audio system to go with Samsung UN55B8000. Finding the right TV wasn't so hard, I'm having a very hard time choosing between audio systems.

I plan to listen to music from time to time, however the main function will be movies, TV (Mostly Sports) and games.

The TV is around 10' from viewing position in a 10' high ceiling living room.
I don't know if that's even relevant when choosing a sound system, but I thought it might matter for better acoustics.

Should I even consider a 7.1 system?
I never even considered a 7.1 system, until I began my search.
It seems like I could end up kicking myself later on, if I don't get a 7.1 system now.
I plan to keep this entire home theater system for a long time, perhaps until there's another ground breaking change in entertainment systems, like HDTV.

My price range is around ,000, however I'm willing to take recommendations over my range, if the extra cost is justified.
I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I do have ears and I'd like to pick the best audio system for my price range. :)

I have looked into Klipsch and Definitive Technology speakers.
For receiver, I've looked into Onkyo, Denon and Pioneer.
Here are links to specific models, I've considered.

Please help me choose the right system.
Any recommendations, help, advice, etc will be appreciated.
Please, please do not reply with a simple brand name or model, this wouldn't help me much at all.

Thank you in advance! :)
Home theater system will be placed in a 15' x 20' living area, but the area extends to dining room, kitchen, hallway, etc.
What I mean is that the area is in the open and not closed with walls.

Bought a Samsung BluRay Home theater system (HD-BD1250) it has one HDMI port. I need to be able to connect it to the tv (VIZIO) and our DishNetwork box(ViP722). My tv has 3 HDMI ports and the Dish has only 1. How do I get the cable box connected to the receiver of the theater system?
I have tried a HDMI switch but that does not solve the problem. I need the audio/video from the DishNetwork to be able to go through the surround sound speakers.
Would a HDMI with a digital audio cable do the trick???

Thanks in advance for the help
I need to get the signal from the satellite to the HT receiver to the TV.

Does anyone know of any HD/BluRay/Upconvert DVD Player Home Theater Systems out on the market? They need not to have HDMI, but they must have component. Thanks!
Actually, there is a complete system out there for me. It is the Philips Digital DVD Home Theater System (HTS6500). Thank you for your answers!

my tv is not hd but have a home theater system wondering what the optical wire will do by hooking it up to the dvd player to the receiver, will it make a differnce?

I bought this especially for the release of Rockstar's most anticipate game to come yet, 'RED DEAD REDEMPTION' and testing the sound quality with surround sound and subwoofer set up. This is my small entertainment/bed room where I can watch blu ray movies, dvd, browse the net and go online for multiplayer games. I had the intention of creating a small home cinema at a low budget cost as a student. I am proud of what I've got so far :)

My current setup; Sony 32" Bravia. Pioneer 7.1 THX receiver. PSB speakers. Kenwood sub (Old). HD pvr, Denon Dvd/Sacd/Dvd audio player, and my computer which is hooked up to the system as well. I also have a Logitech Harmony 880 remote control. Next on my list is a PSB Subsonic 6i subwoofer to replace my kenwood which is like 7 years old. Doesn't seem like much but hey, it's good enuff for me.
