2. can i buy a multimedia player and connect it to the TV instead (external harddrive kinda thing as i usually download movies). can someone check if my dvd player has an optical audio cable input..i am really dumb at this. i would love to have surround sound.

3. can i a buy a new receiver / amplifier to it and retain my old speakers ?

i really cant afford an entirely new system right now and need alternatives..

My boyfriend just bought a plasma TV and I'd like to buy him an home theater system but I don't have a clue where to begin. I've been trying to research online but it seems like there's so many details to figure out - how many watts do I need, do I need a new DVD player with it, do I want to buy it piece by piece or HTIB? Ahhh. I'd like to spend somewhere around 0, max 0 but I don't know if this is realistic for a good system and don't want to get him a cruddy one just for the sake of getting one. I know he's really interested in the ones that have a rear wireless speaker - and I don't know too much more than that. Anyone knowledgeable out there with some good recommendations, a place I should begin my research or willing to have some dialouge with me about the best systems and what I should look for? I think I'll eventually go to CC or BB but I'd like to be armed with some info first. Thanks ahead of time for your help!

My cable box and my DVD player both have on the back a digital coaxial audio output. I'm looking for a home theater system with digital coaxial audio input. My friend already gave me the digital coaxial cable. I don't want a home theater with only left (white) and right (red) inputs. Thanks!

I have a sonyDAV-S300 DVD home theater system And i can't hear my TV on it but i can hear my DVD player and radio on it . I just can't figureout how to get my TV sonud hook up/ Can you pleas help m e/

I want to connect my laptop to home theater, because my dvd player can't play HD movies, though my laptop can.

Reason because i'm asking is that i have no idea how to connect those speaker wires (2 front + 2 back + sub + center) into a standard 3.5mm jack in my laptop.

Please suggest something without buying expensive stuff if you can.
my speakers use spring clip conections and i don't have an amp

I received a Philips DVD Home Theater System (model #: HTS3372D/F7), I have a Sharp Television (model #: 27A-S120), a PS3 and a Nintendo Wii, I also have a cable box provided to me by my cable company it is made by Motorola. To connect all the devices I purchased a 4-way component video distribution amplifier from RadioShack.

When I connect all the devices the only thing that plays from the surround sound speakers is the television, the DVD player on the surround sound system will not play the video, when I turn on one of the game systems and leave the speakers on you can hear the sound from the TV.

How do I connect all four devices and have the sound from each device play like it should be properly?

I want to buy a blu ray player and coonect it to my exsiting home theatre system how do i do this when all the speakers run from the dvd player

My Bose home theater system is hooked up to my new Samsung TV and when the system (it includes a DVD player in it) is on DVD or AM/FM mode, the surround sound works. When the system is on TV mode, it doesn't work anymore. I tried changing the TV speakers to "External mode" and everything went silent. Please help!
