Okay so i was doing some experimenting in my free time and I found that i can connect my Ipod to my home theatre system. I was trying to blast some music for fun when I realised the Sub wasn't working o.O? I check the cables and it looks all good. The chord is going from the main part in the plug (Sub Out) to the subwoofer itself into (Sub In). When i click Sub ON on the main thingo, it says (No Sub connected) ?? help please

I have a problem and was wondering if anyone could assist me with it. I just got for Christmas a 5.1 Sony DVD Home Theatre System (Model: DAV-HDX285) it works perfectly and beyound what I imagined, in some ways even better then how a movie theatre acutally sounds like, but that's only when I have it set to DVD mode from when you change the function you want on your receiver
remote. Overall, when I attempt to switch to regular TV mode just to watch my FIOS cable- only the Front Right, Centre, and Subwoofer work. The rest of the speakers of which are the Front Left, Back Right, and Back Left do not work, they have no sound coming out of them but work perfectly when I put a DVD into the system. I have no clue what is causing this problem or sort of conflict, I don't know if maybe one of the cables aren't in right, or there is a certain cable I may need to use when watching Verizon FIOS TV to make all of the speakers run smoothly and effectively. I just want to say, the system is brand new, has never been touched, came right from the store and I was just wondering what this problem could possibly be and how I can resolve this to make my viewing experience more pleasurable while watching normal TV and not a DVD. Just setting up the wires and cables into the back of the TV and receiver itself was a pain in the ass- as I never had a system like this before and I got confused right off the bat so I may have something in wrong, I just need a helpful hand and would like anyone kind enough to guide me on what I should do and the measures I should take.

-Thanks again and Happy Holiday's.

I would like to play my xbox 360 in 5.1 surround sound. If the home theatre system has a ""Built-In Dolby Digital Decoder"", do I still need an optical cable for my xbox to hear it in 5.1 SS, or will this ""decoder"" take care of this in place of the optical cable.

In other words,Will it be able to just use the red and white cables to produce 5.1 surround sound?

So I recently bought Insignia 5.1 home theatre speaker system which to my surprise only came with 5 speakers and one subwoofer lacking the DVD player. I have one Sony single disc DVD player DVPNS55P/B which has only two RCA sockets (L and R) in the back. Is it feasible to hook up my 5 Speakers and 1 sub cables to the DVD player wihthout separately buying the 5.1 channel box. Thanks

i am looking to upgrade my home theater and keep extra spending at bay. I came across this receiver/dvd system at best buy.com and liked the price and the rave reviews it was getting. i have a projector, and right now i am only able to use component input through an adapter onto the back of my projector (Infocus x1a). I was looking at the back of the receiver and dvd player on best buy site and am wondering how i am going to hook it up? what cables do i need? for instance, i would use a monster component cable to hook the dvd player up to the projector, but how does the receiver connect to the dvd player? what cables does this require? and does this lose any quality in sound and video quality? i need help from somebody that knows this stuff...thanks! The product code for the Pioneer System is HTP-2950DV and it would be hooked up to an Infocus x1a projector (through an adapter i purchased through infocus). PLEASE HELP!
right now also my system is just a 5 disc dvd player with the speaker wires running right into the dvd player. i guess adding the receiver is confusing me (how to hook it up...and worries about compromising video and sound quality). please help thanks!
another note the adapter is VESA to Component...andas for the first answer..i just tried looking for another adapter? idk what you mean...and i was confused by you saying you take the component and plug it into the receiver...when the receiver doesn't have any component spots...only the dvd player does. i guess i am confused how the dvd player hooks up to the receiver, and what cables this takes (and if it compromises sound/picture) thanks!

I have a surround sound system and an HDTV, and an xbox 360 of course. I have the TV hooked to the HD cable box with an HDMI cable in one port, and the xbox 360 hooked to the TV via HDMI cable in another port. I have the surround sound home theater (5 speakers and subwoofer) hooked to the TV via audio jacks (red and white). The TV sound comes through the home theater just fine, but I can't figure out how to get the xbox 360 sound to come through the home theater.

What happens is when I pop in a DVD or game, the regular TV sound comes through the home theater, even when I switch to the other HDMI channel where the game is displayed. There are no audio jacks on my xbox, and the spot where the color stream cables plug in is blocked by the HDMI cable. So what do I do? All I want to do is watch a movie with surround sound. sigh. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I should add that my home theater system has limited connections (no fiber optic). It has two sets of audio jacks (red and white - main and aux), and has one audio in jack (green) in the front. No other connection possibilities.

I found my old Zenith home theater system in the closet, and miss my surround sound on my movies, and I want my surround sound back, but I'm dumbstruck what cables I need. I tried buying a GE fiber optic HD cable from the receiver to the ps3, and doesn't seem to work. My speakers seem to be in good shape, because I tested them out on the radio part on the system.

I will connect audio (r&w) cables, fiber cable or digital coax from the back of the receiver to it's perspective slot on the TV. I assume that I must turn on the home theater system when the TV is on. Then, which remote control do I use? do I need to set up anything on the remote control? Sorry, I am totally new to all this.
