I used an hdmi cable from the tv to the hts and then another hdmi cable to the dish receiver.. I also don't get fm on my tuner.
I d ohave sound on my tv but not from my surround sound system. I did a noise check and that did seem to work.

I have an 106 inch screen with a HD Projector and 7.1 surround sound and blu-ray :P

I have an old 2.1 stereo system hooked up to my tv. I am creating a home theater with a projection screen and all.

I want to upgrade to a 5.1 system. I see alot of theater in a box solutions but they don't seem to offer the versatility of a dedicated receiver. I like the idea of an all in one system with an integrated dvd, but they don't seem to have that many inputs for other devices.

I also worry about if the DVD drive wears out, I will have to replace the whole unit or go out and add another box. Plus what if I decide to upgrade to hd dvds down the road. I also have a htpc and a Wii.

So, is a dedicated receiver is the better choice in the long run. It seems that I would want to ensure that it has hdmi as this seems to be where everything is going within the next 4 years.

(I have a nice progressive scan dvd player that I am happy with now that also plays Divx which I have many of.)

What's the benefit of running a video signal through an audio receiver? Run my DVD player through the home theater so the home theater changes the video source rather than having to change TV Channels?

Thanks!

I currently own a panasonic SA-HT930 HT system...and i'm looking to buy an LCD HDTV, from the research that i've done i think i'm going to go with the 37" LCD Vizio, but as to the wiring i'm going to upgrade from the speaker wires that came in-box with the panisonic HTS, as well as an upgrade to the subwoofer wires. I'm thinking Monster cables for all from the research i've done, but am open to suggestions there as well. Could anybody offer any assistence on how I should wire the panasonic SA-HT930 to the Vizio 37" LCD as well as an XBOX 360 to get the best sound/picture quality. As far as i'm aware the XBOX360 is not HDMI capable, but i'm not 100% on that. Also i'm thinking about one of those Logitech Harmony universal remotes. Any help/reassurance is greatly appreciated. I just don't want to go buy a whole bunch of wires (expensive wires) if the leap will be in vain. thanks in advance

I was wondering if 5.1 home theater system can be works as pc speakers. I know that 5.1 receiver does work by connecting the pc microphone input with the Y-cable and it works.
Does home theater system or most of them has that function? It's the red and white inputs that put Y-cable with BTW.
Thanks!
